Yahoo Sports’ Draft Live crew reacts to the Memphis Grizzlies’ acquiring Washington State wing Cedric Coward at No. 11 in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Very good defense.

Yeah, we got a trade rumor right now from Shaw Sharania believes that the Portland Trail Blazers are trading Cedric Howard at number 11 to the Memphis Grizzlies.

They took them awesome.

I mean, I’m, I’m, I’m so happy for, for the Grizzlies here.

They trade Desmond Bain.

They get the 16th pick and then you trade up to 11.

And get Cedric Coward, who some people with their draft analytics models had as the second best player in the draft class behind Cooper flag because he’s talking about small samples.

Yes, he played only 6 games at Washington State, but he played 3 years of D1 basketball, shot 41% on catch and shoot 3s.

He’s 6’6 with a 73 wingspan.

He’s long.

He’s versatile.

He’s tough.

He’s versatile on offense, not just defense when I say versatile, on offense, he can post up.

It was one of his heaviest.

Plays playing in D1 he can post up fadeaways.

When I interviewed him, I said like who are you watching with some of these moves?

He said, I mean, I’m just watching Kobe on YouTube and I, I mean like I know it’s sacrilegious to say a guy is like Kobe or like Kawhi Leonard, but watch Cedric Coward dribble the basketball with his long length.

He looks like Kawhi.

He’s economical with his movements.

I had him 7th on my board because I feel a high level of confidence and coward as at least.

A good role player because he can hit threes because he can defend because he can pass because he makes the right play but in the long term I think there’s something more with this guy which is why we’ve seen him rise so fast up until the number 11 pick after playing 6 games at.

Washington State not even working out against anybody because he’s still recovering from that shoulder injury he had 1 on 0 is all he did in the pre-draft process.

The D3 to 11th pick in the draft story.

I think this kid’s got something special about him and it won’t surprise me if he ends up being the steal of the draft.
