Yahoo Sports’ Draft Live crew reacts to the New Orleans Pelicans’ selection of Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears with the 7th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

This this pick right here for New Orleans, 6’3, best handle in the draft, herky jerky ball handler, gets wherever he wants on the floor, knows how to play fast, knows how to decelerate with floaters on his way to the basket.

Shot only 28% from 3 in the year, but I feel bullish on what his jumper can be.

43% from mid-range, 50%.

percent on floaters, 85% from the free throw line that was consistent throughout high school and his freshman year at Oklahoma.

On the smaller side, gotta prove himself as a shooter, needs to improve his decision making as well as a passer, but I think with fears the dude’s a bucket getter and he’s gonna be a clutch player as well.

You saw all the clutch shots this dude in Oklahoma last year.

You know, the weird thing is, if you look at his profile.

He profiles Jordan Poole.

He’s just a little bit more inclined as a, right?

Jordan, right?

Like he, he’s small but he’s herky jerky.

Like he’s a shot maker.

I like that look.

There was a thought, a lot of people over the past couple of days they said there was a kid that was rising and threatening to get into the top five, especially while Ace Bailey was falling or maybe a, you know, a Sanders like drop in this draft, it was gonna be this kid.

Yes, and he wound up rising and getting right to 7, which is probably at the edge of where he was going to go.

Yes, yeah, yeah, I’m, I’m not, I like this pick, especially for Joe Dumars, Troy Weaver in that front office now like you said, stabilizing force because you cannot depend on Zion Williamson.

You don’t know what Dejounte Murray is gonna look like.

You got Jordan Poole.

You need to start off with assets, and I think that’s a good picture.

This is probably one of my favorite players in the draft.

His pace that he plays in ball screens is absolutely tremendous.

Is he a great playmaker right now?

No, but he’s still good, and you can tell that he has room to grow and get better.

He was a 1 to 1 assist to turnover ratio guy, a little bit concerning, but I’m not overly concerned because I think that he can grow at the next level, especially with more space on an.

NBA floor, but his ability to be able to put pressure on you, attack the rim, didn’t shoot it great from 3, however, we saw him hit clutch shot after clutch shot when Oklahoma needed it the most.

To me, his last name is perfect Fears because he has none.

He has no fear.

Jeremiah Fears is that dude, and I am highly, highly impressed with him when I watch him, the most skilled guard in this class.
